Sustainable Washroom Products

Air Fresheners

When looking for a solution for bad odours, aerosol-based air fresheners remain a popular choice. At Cathedral Hygiene, we offer a range of air freshener solutions, including options that support your sustainability goals by eliminating the need for propellants.

V-Air Flow

The first of these options is the V-Air Flow air freshener – an innovation fragrance solution designed to be environmentally friendly. It’s the perfect alternative to aerosol air fresheners as it is free from VOC-emitting propellants, making it safer for both people and the planet without compromising on fragrance.

Additionally, the environmentally conscious refills are made from over 50% plant-based materials, and the dispenser itself is made from 100% recycled plastic. Compared to a standard aerosol air freshener, the V-Air Flow helps you to reduce your single-use plastic waste.

How does the V-Air Flow Work?

How can the V-Air Flow deliver optimal fragrance distribution without the need for aerosols and propellants?

The dispenser uses the Venturi effect – a smart airflow design that speeds air up through a narrow channel to evenly distribute the fragrance throughout the room.

Air enters the dispenser through the front vents. This air then picks up the fragrance as it circulates through the unit. The Venturi airflow effect causes an increased velocity as the air exits the unit. The fragrance is then dispersed through the front vents for consistent coverage.

As well as maximum fragrance dispersion, this technology also results in a more event distribution of the fragrance.

Additionally, this air freshener features an intelligent fragrance control system that adjusts the scent output based on room temperate and light, saving energy when the room is not in use.

V-Air Solid

Another option that we offer is the V-Air Solid, a carbon-neutral option that serves as an excellent alternative to aerosol-based air fresheners. This air freshener operates without the use of batteries, aerosols, or harmful propellants.

The V-Air Solid makes use of a solid scent cartridge to gradually release fragrance, rather than using the liquids, gels, or aerosols that are often found in traditional air fresheners. This not only makes it more environmentally friendly, but also a safer option, reducing the risk of spills.

How Does the V-Air Solid Work?

To achieve this fragrance performance without aerosols or batteries, the V-Air Solid operates through the movement of air. It passively disperses fragrance into the air by allowing natural airflow to move freely through the vents.

Its innovative multi-phasing technology means that it provides a consistent, long-lasting fragrance for up to 60 days.

Hand Dryers

We all know the importance of handwashing, but did you know that drying your hands thoroughly is also essential?

Studies show that drying hands is a key part of hand hygiene as bacteria are more likely to transfer from wet skin than from dry skin.

There are several options for hand drying, but our energy-efficient fast hand dryer offers a reliable, hygienic, and low-maintenance solution – particularly in high-traffic environments.

Cathedral Hygiene’s fast dryer is designed with speed in mind; it can completely dry your hands in just 8 – 10 seconds. This makes the fast dryer one of the fastest and most eco-friendly hand dryers in the marketplace.

While no product is zero-impact, our fast dryer reduces energy use by up to 80% compared to traditional models – helping your business reduce its environmental footprint without compromising on hygiene.

In addition to energy savings, hand dryers can significantly reduce ongoing costs related to purchasing, storing, and managing consumables like paper towels. There’s no need for reordering and restocking supplies as it’s always there, ready to be used.

Our fast dryer is also highly cost-effective, with 200 dries costing only 10p. We offer a fixed price for five years resulting in savings in the long-term.

Jet Hand Dryers: A Modern Solution

There are typically two different types of hand dryers: warm-air hand dryers and jet hand dryers.

Warm-air hand dryers are the more traditional of the two. They blow air over a heating element and onto the user’s hands. The warm air evaporates the water from the skin, drying the hands.

The more modern solution is the jet hand dryer. These use high-speed air jets that blow water droplets off the hands quickly and efficiently. This choice does not require the use of a heating element, making it the more energy-efficient option.

Hand Dryers vs Paper Towels

The debate between hand dryers and paper towels has been ongoing on for decades. Studies comparing the two hand drying methods have often produced conflicting results.

There are many benefits of the fast dryer over paper or roller towels. As well as offering an exceptional level of hygiene, a hand dryer doesn’t ‘run out’, and there’s none of the waste and mess of paper dispensing, therefore making it kinder to the environment.

Water Managers

One of the largest environmental impacts in business washrooms is water wastage – especially when it comes to automatically flushing urinals.

You can reduce your urinal water use instantly with our smart flush water management system.

This device is specifically designed to achieve maximum hygiene and savings – it literally reduces the amount of water sent down the drain!

How Does a Water Management System Work?

Our water managers use a valve and sensor system to control the urinal system’s water usage. Instead of flushing at set intervals, a water manager ensures that flushing only occurs when it’s actually needed.

An infrared sensor on the ceiling works together with a valve that is fitted onto the pipe to control the flow of water. The sensor detects motion and, if no one is detected, the valve remains closed. This enables the urinals to flush based on use rather than every 10 – 15 minutes. If unused, there will be automatic hygiene flush after 6 hours which ensures cleanliness when the urinals are not in use.

Some automatic urinals flush continuously, with some even flushing every 10 minutes. With a typical 9 litre cistern, you could be wasting over 1000 litres of water a day. This continuous flushing can significantly increase water consumption and utility costs.

If you are on a water meter, a water management system could help you save up to 80% of your urinal water costs.

Sanitary Disposal

Many people dispose of sanitary and hygiene products without a second thought. Flushing items like wipes, pads, or other hygiene products can have more environmental consequences that many realise. When millions of people are doing the same, these materials often end up clogging sewage systems and polluting waterways, contributing to long-term damage to ecosystems.

To help solve this problem, it is important to ensure that you are offering sanitary disposal options for your customers and staff. If you don’t have a sanitary unit in place, waste is more likely to be flushed, resulting in blockages.

Disposal units should be considered for both female and male washrooms. Improper waste disposal is not just about feminine hygiene products, incontinence pads also need to be disposed of correctly. Conditions such as prostate cancer can cause the need to use incontinence pads, so ensuring that all of your toilet facilities have the necessary facilities is essential.
